In Solidarity with Mourning Mothers of Iran

"Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person"

Saturday 4 June 2011 from 14:00 to 15:00

Article III of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights says: " Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person ", but in our country, Iran, the regime takes away one’s rights, freedom and liberty without providing one with any security. During the past days and months we have heard very disturbing news and seen very unfortunate and painful events from Iran - indiscriminate executions; ill treatment of all political prisoners and prisoners of conscience;  unsanitary conditions in prisons; subhuman conditions in prisons, including Karron and Rajaee Shahr Prison; and recent news leaked to the global media about the existence of a previously unknown about women’s prison in a remote area on the outskirts of Tehran, Gharchak Women’s Prison.

The sudden transfer of political and ideological prisoners, putting them together with criminal prisoners; the hanging of 86 people in the past 5 months; hangings that are carried out for minor crimes; and the cover ups are the constant cases of human rights abuse that touch our daily life.  More than ever we are all concerned about the ever increasing number of executions; every day we have an increasing number of mourning mothers and families , mothers that have to live forever with the burden of having lost children in the most unjust way possible.

We, the supporters of the Mourning Mothers of Iran, will gather in London on 4th June to show our support for these mothers and for the human rights of our people; we condemn the indiscriminate executions and ask all the human rights organizationsAmnesty International and the UN to take every necessary measure to halt the executions in Iran.

Human rights violations, sexual abuse of prisoners, physical and psychological torture, forced confessions from people submitted to atrocious torture methods, the keeping of long-term prisoners mostly in solitary confinement, are all reasons for us to stand united and insist on the demands of the Mourning Mothers for:

- An end to executions
-The release of all political prisoners and prisoners of conscience
- The bringing to justice of those responsible for the killings carried out over the past 32 years
