sunshine.
Our event this Saturday coincided with the 13th day of the Iranian New Year when most Iranians would be celebrating this day outdoors with family and friends.
We instead gathered in Trafalgar Square in support of Mourning Mothers of Iran and became the voice for those who have lost a child or have been separated from their children who are in prison. In the hazy spring sunshine of London our event took an un-usual turn when Helen Namvarazad joined us and sang beautiful songs for Mourning Mothers. A little later, in her musical contribution Helen was joined by Alex Yemaoua Dayo.
The sunshine together with the music provided a joyful twist to an event that is normally heavy with the harsh reality of life for many mothers and fathers in Iran. I am sure the ambience of the event caused us all to reflect on lives lost but at the same time made us more determined to become the voice of those currently in prison or threatened into silence by the regime, simply because they are asking for freedom and democracy.
